This name may sound a little familiar to you. Can't place your finger as to where you might have heard this name? Let me help you.
Chris Kyle is credited as the most lethal sniper in U.S. Military history. He has saved countless lives. He helped veterans with PTSD. But most of all he was a hero. Chris Kyle was killed at a gun range while helping a Marine with PTSD adjust back to living civilian life. This event really shook up the military world. Before he was killed Chris Kyle wrote an autobiography called "American Sniper", which was a pretty good book. But recently, a movie was released based on the book to represent Chris Kyle and his life. Now, this was not just a movie. This was a powerful and emotionally driven motion picture. It wasn't a Rambo or Terminator style movie with endless bullets and an invincible protagonist. Instead it showed the life of a sheepdog and the struggles of protecting sheep from the wolves of the world.
For the midnight release of this movie, BAR organized a group to go to this event. We were in our BAR uniforms and we were ready for an amazing movie. Those of you who know me will know that I love action movies. Anything with guns, explosions, fight scenes and beards are normally my kind of movie. But "American Sniper" is not your average action movie, in fact it is classified more as a drama movie. Shocking isn't it? But its not so shocking once you sit down and watch this movie. You will realize that Chris Kyle was just your average American trying to do what was right in the world. He wasn't in it for the fame or the fortune, he was in it to make the world a better place. If you asked me, I think he succeeded.
"American Sniper" will definitely tug at the heart strings and really make you think about life and how it is handled. This movie shows the struggles of home life for a combat veteran and how Chris Kyle lived through it and improved. There are some war scenes that may be a bit uncomfortable for a lot of viewers but Clint Eastwood (The Director) wanted this movie to be as realistic as possible. This movie was made to be one of the greatest tributes made to Chris Kyle, in which Clint did a bang up job!
Throughout the whole movie I was super tense and very emotional. Something that just doesn't happen, especially in public. I felt for Chris Kyle, I felt for his wife, I felt for his children. This movie helped solidify the respect I have for Chris Kyle. Now, I know a lot of people do not agree with Chris and his actions but I will stand by this man for all the things he fought for. I never met this man but his actions are felt throughout the world. And the best part? He just wanted to be a good guy. So, in my book he was definitely a good guy, in fact one of the best.
Whatever your opinion is on the War on Terror, please know that this is not some propaganda from the Government. This is just a true story that needed to be told with a lot of good lessons to be learned within. Obviously, I highly recommend this movie. This is a staple movie and should not be missed. I am not just saying this and I really mean it: "American Sniper" is one of the best movies of all time. It truly is a masterpiece and a work of art. Thank you Clint Eastwood and the whole cast and crew for making this motion picture. Chris Kyle would be proud.
